What’s in A Name? Some names are tied down to skill or profession just like Joe the Barber, Roger the GOAT tennis player and Dr. Phil. Or even Optimus Prime.
What does the name, Primus Inter Pares, represent?
“Primus inter pares[1] (Ancient Greek: Πρῶτος μεταξὺ ἴσων, prōtos metaxỳ ísōn) is a Latin phrase meaning first among equals. It is typically used as an honorary title for someone who is formally equal to other members of their group but is accorded unofficial respect, traditionally owing to their seniority in office.”

“For the AGSB, THE thrust is to make students “primus inter pares” (first among equals), recognizing them as workplace-based professionals who are leaders in their respective organizations. It gives premium to learning that is distilled from both classroom and business experiences, wherein one experience enriches the other. Theories learned are validated and made relevant in the workplace, and work experience is deepened and given structure in academic life.”

For my MBA classes, Primus Inter Pares are student-professionals who are committed to prove their excellence in all they do and when they do it, all the time, every time. Primus don’t seek guarantees, bonuses or rewards. They volunteer to be first, on time, every time even if they are not sure what the task will be. Primus follow first and then ask later. They seek clarification through questions and trust in the answers that may or may not come. They may or may not be particular of the grades, but they are definitely willing to do whatever it takes to learn.
Are you Primus Inter Pares? If not, will you be? There is no try. Primus DO. Primus Just DO it.
By living a life of Primus, you reap what you sow – You Stay 1 Step Ahead…
